Sellwood Middle School

A challenging, well-rounded curriculum is crafted for each student at Sellwood Middle School. The school’s strong math program and classes in language arts, social studies, science, and health give students a solid foundation for lifelong learning. Computers are readily available in every class, as well as in the school’s two computer labs and library. Physical education classes keep things in balance, helping students stay active and at their best.

Multi-age classrooms offer another possibility. Sixth and seventh graders stay in a multi-age class for both years. Each year, students generate themes for an integrated approach to studying that draws on all academic disciplines. Half the day is spent in a humanities block, the other half in a science/math block. Students in these multi-age classrooms do not receive letter grades but rather have performance-based assessments and portfolios.
